Intro to Pen and Ink and Approaches to Drawing

On February 1st and February 8th I held a drawing course geared towards artists of all levels looking to learn about pen and ink illustration. As part of the course, each student created their own series of pen and ink illustrations. This included a mock-up of their own comic book character.

As an example for the class I created Vacuuman. I’m not certain at this point what the purpose of Vacuuman is but I thought it would be an interesting idea.

I created the initial pen and ink drawing with micron pens and then brought it into Photoshop to add color. Adding color on a black and white pen drawing has it’s challenges. Normally I would have used a pencil sketch as the base framework for the color image. Nevertheless I think it turned out reasonably well as an initial concept.
